DIY Belt Hanger & Inspirational Wood Art - HGTV Handmade

Welcome to HGTV Handmade: Creating Unique Wall Art from Scrap Wood

Hello and welcome back to my channel! Today, I'm excited to share with you a fun DIY project that combines creativity, practicality, and repurposing of old scrap wood. As a DIY enthusiast, we often find ourselves collecting useful items, including scraps of wood that could potentially become something amazing. In this video, I'll show you how to transform these scraps into beautiful wall art pieces that not only add a personal touch to your home but also serve a functional purpose.

The idea for today's project came about when I noticed similar pieces of wall art in various boutique stores and main chain retailers. I was immediately drawn to the unique designs and the way they added a touch of personality to any room. As someone who loves to create and upcycle, I wanted to bring this concept home and make it my own. To achieve this, I'll be adding a practical spin to the traditional wall art by incorporating hooks that will allow me to hang my belts on them.

To get started, you'll need a few basic supplies: craft paint or spray paint, paint brushes, scrap wood, screw-on hooks, and either a chain or a ribbon to hold up your wooden art. Make sure to sand down any rough edges on your wood and wipe off any loose dirt or dust before beginning the project. For this piece of wood, I'll be using chalkboard spray paint to create a black surface, while the other piece will feature craft blue paint.

When it comes to painting, I recommend applying at least two layers to ensure complete coverage of the surface and sides of your wood piece. Let each layer dry completely before adding your design. This is where you can let your creativity shine! Use a paper cutout as a template or draw inspiration from your favorite quotes, patterns, or shapes. For this project, I've chosen inspirational sayings to add an extra layer of meaning to my wooden art.

Once you're happy with your design, take out your paintbrush and apply it over the painted area. Remember, this is where you can get creative! Paint whatever you like, from simple colors to intricate patterns, and make sure your design complements the overall aesthetic of your wall art.

To hang your wooden art piece, you'll need to screw on two hooks depending on the size of your wood. If the wood is super hard, you may need to pre-drill holes before screwing in the hooks. To ensure a secure hold, I've measured out where I want to place the hooks and marked each spot. Finally, I simply screwed on the hooks one by one.

The finishing touch will be attaching a ribbon or chain to hang your wooden art piece on the wall. For added practicality, I'll be using this element to create a functional hanging system that allows me to display my belts alongside my artwork. And that's it! With these simple steps, you can create unique and beautiful wall art pieces from scraps of wood that add a personal touch to your home.

I hope you've enjoyed this DIY tutorial and will give it a try in the future. If you do, please don't forget to leave a thumbs up and share your own creations with me in the comments below. I'll be talking to you next Friday on another exciting project, so until then, stay creative and happy crafting!
