The Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design Edition: A Unique and Expensive Addition to the Mate Series
We recently covered the launch event of the Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, but while we announced another phone that I really wanted to go see, this is our quick look at the Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design Edition. The main differences between the regular Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the Mate 20 RS Porsche Design Edition are aesthetics. The Porsche Design model has leather on the backside, which is kind of surrounding a one sheet of black glass. It's also got that Porsche Design logo centered in the middle of the phone. In contrast, the regular Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro have a bit of a camera bump on the front, while the Mate 20 RS Porsche Design Edition has it flush with the phone's surface, making the phone just a tiny tiny bit thicker.
So, what makes this version so special? The main differences are on the inside. The Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design Edition comes with 8GB of RAM and either 256 or 512 gigabytes of storage. However, it's worth noting that these extra specs come at a price. This one's gonna cost you €1595 for the baseline model, and you're paying almost $400 to $500 more just to get the 512 gigabyte model. That's a significant difference in cost compared to the regular Mate 20 Pro. So, why would anyone want to spend that kind of money on this phone? Well, if you're a huge Porsche fan or just want to spend your money on something really expensive, then this might be the phone for you.
But beyond the aesthetics and specs, there's not much different between this phone and the regular Mate 20 Pro. The leather finish is definitely not a fingerprint magnet like the regular Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro, which is a plus. However, if you're looking for a more affordable option, you might want to consider one of those other phones. So, what else does the Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design Edition have to offer? Well, as mentioned earlier, it comes with some custom wallpapers that Porsche design has included with the phone. We were able to rip these off of the phone and we've uploaded them to a shared folder, so you guys can use them if you want.
It's also worth noting that this is not the first time Huawei has collaborated with Porsche Design on a smartphone. In 2011, they released the Porsche Design P'935, which was a Windows Phone 7 device. However, that phone was not very successful, and it seems like this latest collaboration with Porsche Design is more of a premium offering rather than a mass-market device.
In conclusion, the Huawei Mate 20 RS Porsche Design Edition is a unique and expensive addition to the Mate series. While it comes with some nice features, such as the leather finish and custom wallpapers, it's not for everyone. If you're looking for a more affordable option or just want a phone that looks different from the regular Mate 20 Pro, then you might want to consider one of those other options. However, if you're a huge Porsche fan or just want to spend your money on something really expensive, then this might be the phone for you.
We also have a hands-on with the Wall (we meet) 20 and Mate 20 Pro if you want to go see that, as well as some other announcements, such as a new Mate 20x that no one was really expecting. There's a 7.2 inch phone in this new device, so we'll have more information on that later. In the meantime, I'm working on the full review of the Mate 20 Pro right now, so stay tuned and I'll catch you in the next video.
