**The 2018 MacBook Air Review: A Mixed Bag**
The 2018 MacBook Air is a computer that has been designed to provide a balance between portability and performance. With its compact size and lightweight design, it is perfect for those who want a laptop that can fit easily in their backpack or purse. However, the biggest change that you will notice straight away in terms of the new MacBook Air is the display. We finally have a Retina display now 2560 by 1600 resolution and the BPI of 227 and it's actually miles better than the previous generation MacBook Air however it's not as good as the MacBook Pros this play so even though we have the exact same resolution the brightness is actually lower 300 nits on the air versus 500 on a MacBook Pro. This means that if you plan on using this outdoors then get the MacBook Pro and also, the panel itself is 100% sRGB so it's a pretty good panel in terms of the color accuracy and reproduction but a MacBook Pro has a P3 color space so yeah it's quite a bit bigger than the sRGB called space so you get deeper blacks and a more vibrant display overall.
Another notable change is the lack of True Tone display that we get on 2018 about pros where the display actually adjust the cold temperature automatically based on lighting conditions around you. So, the MacBook Air is display isn't bad it's actually pretty good but it's not as good as the MacBook Pro on so if you're into Netflix or streaming especially with the a generation processor that you get inside a MacBook Air you can do that for a really really a long time but that's kind of pointless if you cannot watch your favorite TV shows however you can easily do that with PureVPN our sponsor for this video which allows you to access websites such as Netflix us from anywhere you are in the world and also, gamers can also use PureVPN to specifically select the region that's closest to their game server or for example you can get special offers and game discounts from Steam and more that are normally locked to specific regions. Your connection is fully encrypted and secure so you can browse safely and the best part about PureVPN is that works on your MacBook Air or pretty much any Mac for that matter and also, it works on Windows iOS as well as Android.
**The Verdict: Is the 2018 MacBook Air Worth It?**
So, in the end what do I think about the new MacBook Air well to be honest it's actually a tricky one you see if you want the most portable Mac then the 12-inch MacBook is still the way to go also Apple should have called this the MacBook and the MacBook 12 inch the MacBook Air because you know it makes more sense the error was supposed to be the thinnest and lightest Mac which second a 12-inch MacBook now one more Apple inconsistency if you want the best insurance of portability and performance then the 13-inch MacBook Pro without a touch bar is overall much better than the area's also it only costs 250 pounds more. I'll actually be doing an in-depth comparison between the MacBook Air 2018 and the 13-inch MacBook Pro next week so definitely stay tuned for that but as of right now the 30 inch MacBook Pro is worth getting a lot more than the air is however I actually have a strong feeling that Apple would be removing the non touch bar dual-core MacBook Pro from their lineup pretty soon and in that case yeah the MacBook Air would be would be the option that's in between the 12-inch MacBook which is the really portable MacBook but not at powerful and then the quad-core 13-inch Bible Pro with a touch bar but until then the MacBook Air is a good choice for people who want those two extra hours of battery life and also, the improved keyboard with Touch ID which the 13-inch MacBook Pro without a touch bar doesn't offer so yeah there we go this was my full in the review of the 2018 of MacBook Air.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enthis is it the Neal 2018 MacBook Air and this is my full in the review covering everything from the design the display the performance video editing speakers battery life and most importantly who is this product for who is it for the brand-new 2018 MacBook Airs so get those snacks ready get some drinks as well sit back relax and enjoy the broth privately and securely checkout purevpn our sponsor for this video you can sign up for as little as 1.32 dollars per month and you can get access to websites that you normally don't have any access to such as for example Netflix US and many more check out P or VPN using the link in description so back in 2008 Steve Jobs was on the stage and he did a magic trick that would actually change the computing world forever he had a thin envelope in his hand and when he opened it there was actually a laptop inside and that laptop was the MacBook Air it might be surprised but back in 2008 the average laptop looked like this yes that was the Sony Vaio FW 21 II that was my Prima Pro 2011 laptop and even though that was one of the thinnest laptops on the market there was nothing like the MacBook Air out there you see the MacBook Air created a whole ultrabook category for laptops it was the world's first ultra book the first extremely thin laptop with significantly less performance than your average laptop but something that could be taken just anywhere you wanted but the original MacBook Air was flawed heavily flawed it came with a slow hard drive it lacked the ports that I'm a GoPro came with the battery life wasn't great and it was really really really expensive not even to mention that the 1.6 gear hurts Intel Core 2 Duo processor inside of this thing made it a slowest Mac that Apple was selling in 2008 it was really slow really expensive and it wasn't good but then it kept getting better actually then in 2010 Apple has introduced a second generation MacBook Air which came with that iconic teardrop design that you're all familiar with and also came with full flash storage this time a much more powerful processor and Apple has actually stuck with this design for the past eight years eight years yeah from 2010 to 2018 Apple has been using the exact same design for all the MacBook Airs but we did get better processor as better graphics better battery life with every new model and then the prices also be in the crease over the years in 2015 the MacBook Air has actually reached its pinnacle it was a $999 macbook literally apples least expensive offering it offered a 12 hour battery life even more depending on how you used it so yeah I was light it was portable the performance was good the battery life was really good it was the perfect laptop for a lot of students reason why it sold so so well in Jasmine 15 Apple has also introduced a radically different 12-inch MacBook which to be honest Apple should have called as the new MacBook Air because the 12-inch MacBook was thinner it was lighter than the air which is actually the one that's supposed to be the thinnest and the lightest macbook hence you know its name but then something happened or should i say something did not happen anymore Apple stopped updating the MacBook Air with zero updates in 2016 a slight CPU bump in 2017 medallas it's in 2018 the MacBook Air that Apple was selling was three years old in terms of the specs so yeah it was looking old it was all dated it was slow and it was actually really expensive Apple has not decreased the price since 2015 however Apple has now updated a MacBook Air with a brand new third-generation design which is this one and it's pretty it's a completely different story than the previous generation it's a completely new laptop in every single way so let's start off with the design the new MacBook Air is essentially a cocktail mix of the old design combined with the MacBook Pros design combined with a 12-inch MacBooks designed so it's got a teardrop design and interesting enough dimension wise it has the exact same width and your exact same height as a 13-inch MacBook Pro but since it has this teardrop wedge design it is much thinner towards the top and towards the end it's actually a bit thicker than the MacBook Pro but something that I was actually surprised to see is that even though the third generation MacBook Air is a hundred grams lighter than the previous generation I don't know it just feels it feels heavy you would expect this to be extremely light but that's not really the case the 12-inch MacBook is significantly lighter so if you care about getting the most portable and lightest MacBook there is go for a 12-inch MacBook and not the air the air feels pretty much the same as the 13-inch MacBook Pro even the case that Apple sells now it fits both the 13-inch Bible Pro and 13-inch 2018 Bible care okay so if it's so similar to the pro in terms of the dimensions how's the performance on the macbook air well the macbook air comes with the intel i5 82 10y processor which is very different to the u series processors that we get in something like the 13-inch MacBook Pro so this is only a 7 walk processor and it's also fanless essentially this is Intel's Core M just rebranded now Apple has indeed added a fan to the MacBook Air in order to keep thermals low but a CPU itself by design it does not require a fan the baseline MacBook Air also comes with eight gigabytes of lpddr3 21 33 megahertz memory as well as 128 gigabytes of flash storage now I do recommend upgrading the storage when you order this so at least you hundred and fifty six gigabytes depending on your needs because 128 gigabytes is not enough on a computer obviously unless you plan on you know using this solely for web browsing and nothing else over this is a very fast flash module nonetheless but right speeds of over one gigabyte per second and read speeds of over 2 gigabytes per second and then with Apple's new ap FS file system we can actually duplicate large folders basically in an instant which is very very impressive now when it comes to you the actual performance the real world performance I would say that it's quite good so for things such as web browsing Word Excel or Pages and Numbers if you use Apple suite it's more than enough if you plan on doing anything that's a bit more advanced such as photo editing it's more than enough to handle Lightroom and Photoshop now it shows a video anything you can even edit 4k video on this in Final Cut Pro 10 however you'll have to limit the amount of titles and effects you add to a bare minimum otherwise the timeline is going to be quite laggy now in terms of export times here I have my surface pro 6 full review which is a 13 minute timeline 4k with lots of titles effects color curves so yeah this is a pretty complex project and this to the air gets how long 1 hour and 51 minutes to export for a 30 minute timeline now just to give you guys an idea the 13-inch 2017 non-touch bar baseline MacBook Pro with the apples actually still selling finished just in one hour and 2 minutes while the 15-inch 20/80 maxed out MacBook Pro with a 560 X GPU finished in 28 minutes so the MacBook Air while it can do 4k video editing export times are significantly longer than on a MacBook Pro so yeah if you plan on doing video editing daily on this and more demanding work then don't buy it don't buy the MacBook Air if you're that kind of person and you need that workflow but if you plan on just occasionally anything I don't know once a week once a month then it's more than powerful enough to handle even 4k video in that case now the good news is that a MacBook Air also comes with not one but actually two Thunderbolt 3 ports on the left also had phone jack on the right but the main focus here are the two Thunderbolt 3 ports so a Thunderbolt 3 you could connect a 5k monitor to the MacBook Air or even two 4k monitors at 60 Hertz which is very impressive you can also connect Thunderbolt 3 dogs and more importantly you can connect external graphics cards such as the Radeon rx 580 or the Vega 64 which I have right here all you need is a dpi enclosure link in the description for the best one that you can possibly get and then also you need to keep you as well link for the most compatible ones in the description as well and then it's literally just plug in play so you just plug and play the GPU and it just works and with an e GPU you get a massive boost in graphical performance so you can play the latest games in the highest possible settings you can do 3d modeling you can even do proper video anything on its machine so yeah an e GPU completely changes the entire purpose of this computer the MacBook Air for example exporting the exact same Final Cut Pro project that took 1 hour and 51 minutes before only took 41 minutes with the e GPU again still longer than the 28 minutes that the 15-inch Bible protic but still a massive improvement compared to before ok so now that we got the performance of the way let's talk about all the other stuff the keyboard a battery life in the display and more so in terms of a keyboard it's actually really good like really good it's got a third-generation butterfly mechanism same as in the 2018 MacBook Pros and it is a noticeable step up from the second generation that was found in the 2017 MacBook Pros the keys are more tactile and I find it much easier and quicker to type on this then on the second generation and then since we have this wet shaped design and the keyboard itself is angled and some people might find it a bit more comfortable to type on compared to a flat keyboard like the MacBook Pros have now I still prefer typing on a MacBook Pro 2018 because I'm probably more used to that so yeah in my case I prefer a flat keyboard we do not get a touch bar but we do get touchy D now so a fingerprint sensor that allows you to unlock the Mac make Apple pay payments and even fill in your passwords just by using your fingerprint then the trackpad itself is also really good we don't get the same force touch trackpad that we do in the 12-inch MacBook and the MacBook Pros where the truck but itself doesn't physically click but it vibrates and it gives you the impression of a click and honestly it works like magic you can I'll click anywhere on the trackpad and you also get the third click called the force touch click which allows you to rename files quickly or look up words and Dictionary and more so great trackpad but interesting enough and it's actually smaller than the one on a 30-inch Bible Pro even though they have the exact same body size and also the exact same keyboard size now Apple has also included the t2 security chip inside a new MacBook Air which is actually based on Apple's a10 processor that's inside the iPhone 7 and the chip itself is an armed coprocessor that handles a lot of stuff such as the boot sequence the disk encryption in real time the camera the microphone it even turns off the microphone by the way when the lid is closed for security purposes so yeah it's an amazing chip to have over there actually still a lot of issues with a tegu processor where your device would actually randomly restart or just crash straight away when you're using federal accessories this is something that's affecting the iMac pro the 2010 MacBook Pros as well as now the new MacBook Air so for example my macbook pro has crashed 20-plus times because of this and then my MacBook Air has crashed twice so far or in that the speaker's have also been improved now they're almost as loud as the 2017 30-inch non-touch my macbook pro ones the 2018 memory pros are still better so just listen to this and tell me what do you guys think in terms of the sound quality and then the battery life overall is actually really really good so Apple claims up to 12 hours which is the highest on any MacBook now this of course depends on the usage of every person but you would automatically get a lower power consumption than the 13-inch by GoPro because of the 7 watt processor that's inside of this thing now my only complaint here is that it actually comes with a 30 watt charger rather than a 61 watt one and we get with a 30 inch Bible Pro even though it's got a 49 watt hour battery exactly the same size as the non talker model of the 2017 MacBook Pro so yeah charging this would actually take twice as long as charging the 13-inch MacBook Pro but honestly the biggest change that you will notice straightaway in terms of the new MacBook Air is the display we finally have a Retina display now 2560 by 1600 resolution and the BPI of 227 and it's actually miles better than the previous generation MacBook Air however it's not pointless if you cannot watch your favorite TV shows however you can easily do that with purevpn our sponsor for this video which allows you to access websites such as netflix us from anywhere you are that are normally locked to specific regions your connection is fully encrypted and secure so you can browse safely and the best part about pure VPN is that works on your MacBook Air or pretty much any Mac for that matter and then it also works on Windows iOS as well as Android so no matter what device you use your connection will always be secure if your VPN are also doing a massive deal right now so you can get pure VPN for as low as one point thirty two dollars a month and this deal actually lasts until November 30th so yeah check out the link in the description and thanks again to purevpn for being the sponsor of this video so in the end what do I think about the new MacBook Air well to be honest it's actually a tricky one you see if you want the most portable Mac then the 12-inch MacBook is still the way to go also Apple should have called this the MacBook and the MacBook 12 inch the MacBook Air because you know it makes more sense the error was supposed to be the Olympic ations if you're new to your channel and you want to see more in-depth reviews like this one also that video the 30 inch MacBook Pro versus the MacBook Air is coming on next week so definitely support a channel and you get access to some pretty cool exclusive features but yeah this has been pretty much you think of watching I'm Daniel and I'll see you guys in my next one so affectthis is it this video so in the end what do I think about the new MacBook Air well to be honest it's actually a tricky one you see if you want the most portable Mac then the 12-inch MacBook is still the way to go also Apple should have called this the MacBook and the MacBook 12 inch the MacBook Air because you know it makes more sense the error was supposed to be the thinnest and lightest Mac which second a 12-inch MacBook now one more Apple inconsistency if you want the best insurance of portability and performance then the 13-inch MacBook Pro without a touch bar is overall much better than the area's also it only costs 250 pounds more I'll actually be doing an in-depth comparison between the MacBook Air 2018 and the 13-inch MacBook Pro next week so definitely stay tuned for that but as of right now the 30 inch MacBook Pro is worth getting a lot more than the air is however I actually have a strong feeling that Apple would be removing the non touch bar dual-core MacBook Pro from their lineup pretty soon and in that case yeah the MacBook Air would be would be the option that's in between the 12-inch MacBook which is the really portable MacBook but not at powerful and then the quad-core 13-inch Bible Pro with a touch bar but until then the MacBook Air is a good choice for people who want those two extra hours of battery life and also the improved keyboard with touch ID which the 13-inch MacBook Pro without a touch bar doesn't offer so yeah there we go this was my full in the review of the 2018 of MacBook Air definitely subscribe and Olympic ations if you're new to your channel and you want to see more in-depth reviews like this one also that video the 30 inch MacBook Pro versus the MacBook Air is coming on next week so definitely hit the bell for that video wanna
