The Humor and Vulnerability of Being a New Gamer
As I sit here reflecting on my recent decision to start a gaming channel, I have come to realize that there's one aspect that sets me apart from the rest – I'm a noob. Yes, you read that right. A noob. It's a term often used to describe someone who is new and inexperienced in a particular activity or game. In my case, it's not because I'm bad at games, although I do admit to sucking at many of them. Instead, I've come to accept that being a noob has its benefits.
For one, it can be really entertaining to watch. When you're new to something, things don't always go according to plan. You'll make mistakes, and sometimes those mistakes will lead to hilarious moments that are just as entertaining as they are embarrassing. I've had my fair share of these moments, from accidentally talking during a cutscene to getting scared by the slightest horror game trigger. It's moments like these that remind me why I love gaming – it's not just about winning or being good at something; it's also about having fun and enjoying the ride.
Another benefit of being a noob is that you're more likely to experience "beginner's luck." You know, that feeling when you get lucky on your first try? It's like magic! And trust me, I've had my fair share of these moments. They're usually limited to easy mode and the first level of a game, but they're still exhilarating. Of course, there's also the opposite side – frustration and despair. When things don't go as planned, it can be tough to deal with. But even in those moments, I've learned that gaming is about more than just winning or losing; it's about enjoying the experience and having fun.
As someone who struggles with multitasking and motor skills-intensive activities, gaming has become a balancing act. I often find myself flailing around with limbs, trying to keep up with the game while also remembering what I'm supposed to be doing. It's like doing improv on stage – you have to think on your feet and react quickly. And just like in improv, things don't always go as planned. But that's all part of the fun.
So, why do I find being a noob so entertaining? Is it because I'm not ashamed of my mistakes? Maybe. But more likely, it's because gaming is about more than just winning or losing; it's about having fun and enjoying the experience. And when you're new to something, that's exactly what you get – a fresh perspective, a willingness to try new things, and an openness to learning.
Of course, there are also moments where being a noob can be... um, let's just say "interesting." Like the time I accidentally told someone that was supposed to be a cutscene was a real event. Or when I got scared by a character in a horror game and had to pause the game for a few seconds to collect myself. These moments are always entertaining, but they also make me realize just how much I have to learn.
In the end, being a noob has taught me that gaming is not just about winning or losing; it's about enjoying the experience and having fun. It's about being willing to try new things, even if you're not sure what you're doing. And most importantly, it's about being open to learning and growing as a gamer.
