How Good is the Nintendo Switch Display (vs. 3DS XL) Measurements
The Nintendo Switch Display: A Comprehensive Review
Hey everybody, this is Erica, the technology nerd, and I'm here to film some stuff today! And right now, I have both the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS XL with me. Today, I want to answer an interesting question that a lot of people probably have - how good is the display on the Nintendo Switch, especially compared to the display on the 3DS XL? If we get down to the very small terms of it all, this will be a really nice media experience on YouTube and Netflix. However, if you guys have tried watching YouTube or Netflix on this device, you probably know that the colors just don't look so good. I'm sure you guys have noticed that skin tones don't look as saturated or as red as they should.
This is because the Nintendo Switch has a full sRGB display, which means it has the full sRGB gamut, whereas the 3DS XL does not come close to meeting the sRGB gamut. As a result, this display is really lacking in red and even blues, where the 3DS XL shows the full range of colors needed to make things look right. Not only that, but Nintendo obviously had someone working on calibrating this display that knew what they were doing, so there's a lot bigger investment here on the quality of the display. Taking a closer look at it, we can see that it has good black levels with a contrast ratio over 1:1. Nice colors that are not oversaturated or strange, although it does have a bit of a cool tone because the white point is on the cool side at over 8,500 Kelvin.
On the other hand, the 3DS XL has a full sRGB gamut as well, which means it displays the full range of needed colors for web and consumer content. It also has decent gamma for proper overall image contrast, so it's not too dark or washed out. The gray scale does not deviate with weird color banding, which is great. Additionally, the 3DS XL gets brighter than the Nintendo Switch at near 400 nits, where the Switch is less than 200 nits of brightness. This means that it can be seen outdoors better. We also have a much larger display here than the 3DS XL and we have a much better pixel density. These displays have really nice viewing angles as well.
However, I'm sure that there are some variations because for all we know, there could be different panel manufacturers, but the one that I have and the one that my husband has look the same, so I'm thinking that there is probably some consistency here. Every single display that I measured on the 3DS XL looked different, you never knew what you were going to get out of the box. Plus, there was IPS displays and TN displays, which had good viewing angles when others didn't.
How would I rate the Nintendo Switch display? I give it a rating of 9 to 9.5 out of 10. The 3DS XL is like a four or five out of 10 depending on if you get the IPS version or not. I know that some people might prefer a glass screen protector, which would be a good idea for overall market durability.
Please rate comment and subscribe! I think that the switch display is great, hopefully there aren't too many variations. Let me know if you like yours, if you don't like yours, let me know if yours sounds like mine does. So, this has been Erica, the technology nerd, likes to film stuff.

an interesting question for you all which I'm sure a lot of people have which is how good just how good is the display on the Nintendo switch especially compared to the display on the 3DS XL if we want to get down to the very small terms of it all just as a synopsis before I go into proving things Nintendo did it this display once we get YouTube and Netflix is going to be able to be a really nice media experience whereas if you guys have tried watching YouTube or Netflix on this device the colors just don't look so good I'm sure you guys have noticed that skin tones don't look as saturated or as red as they should and just on that one small point that is because this is a full srgb display it's got the full srgb gamut where this one doesn't come close to meeting the srgb gamut so basically this display is really lacking in red and even Blues where this one shows the full range of color that's needed to make things look right so not only does this have a much wider range of colors that it's able to show but Nintendo obviously had somebody working on calibrating this display that knew what they were doing so there's a lot bigger investment here on the quality of the display so taking a bit of a closer look it's got good black levels with a contrast ratio of over 1,000 to1 nice colors that are not oversaturated or of a straight strange Hue though they do have a bit of a cool tone because the white point is on the cool side at over 8,500 Kelvin but trust me the 3DS XL is a lot worse it has the full srgb gamut so that it displays the full range of needed colors for web and consumer content decent gamma for proper overall image contrast so it's not too dark or washed out and the gray scale does not deviate and have weird color banding this all means that it's got good color reproduction good overall contrast and good blacks it's also nice that it gets brighter than the 3DS XL at near 400 nits where the XL was less than 200 nits of brightness so it can be better seen Outdoors so we've got a much larger display here than the XL and we've also got a much better pixel density and these displays have really nice viewing angles as well but I'm 10 with the 3DS is like a four to five out of 10 depending on if you get the IPS version or not I know the front of the switch display is not glassic some people would like but for the overall Market this is probably a better choice for durability sake just get yourself a glass screen protector so let me know what you guys think of the Nintendo switch display and if you like yours if you don't or Netflix to show the real colors like the browser shows otherwise the onboard player makes colors look off bye for realhey everybody this is Erica the technology nerd likes to film stuff and right
