A Mixed Bag of Books: My Recent Reading Experience

I recently had the opportunity to read two books back-to-back, which was an experiment in itself. I decided to dive into the "trilogy" by Catherine Katarina Lara, hoping to find some juicy and angsty content that would satisfy my reading cravings. Unfortunately, one of the books, "The Wrong Bride," fell flat, leaving me underwhelmed and disappointed.

What irritated me most about "The Wrong Bride" was the fact that our heroine, Hannah, seemed to be lusting after her sister's fiancé, who was also married to Raven. The plot twists and turns in a way that felt like a soap opera, with Raven's husband making decisions that are not only hurtful but also puzzling. Raven herself is portrayed as a doormat, and her reactions to the situation feel forced and unnatural. The book's attempts at angst and emotional depth fell flat, leaving me feeling uninvested in the characters' stories.

One of the biggest issues I had with "The Wrong Bride" was its execution. The author seemed to be relying on convenient plot devices and clichéd character tropes to drive the story forward. Raven's husband is often portrayed as insensitive and selfish, but his actions feel more like a cop-out than a genuine expression of his emotions. Meanwhile, Hannah's character development is non-existent, making it difficult for me to care about her plight. In contrast, the other book in the trilogy, "Ignite," was a vastly different experience. While it still had its share of problems, I found myself becoming increasingly invested in the story and its characters. The writing style is engaging and immersive, with a narrative that flows smoothly and efficiently. The author's use of language is evocative and descriptive, creating vivid images in my mind.

One of the things that impressed me most about "Ignite" was its ability to balance humor and drama. The book has its share of laugh-out-loud moments, but it also tackles some serious themes with sensitivity and nuance. The characters are well-developed and complex, with distinct personalities and motivations that drive the plot forward.

In conclusion, my recent reading experience was a mixed bag of emotions. romances perused the kind of best sellers list and found some romances that I'd never really heard of but I feel like I've seen uh pictures of the covers I don't know I just feel like I want to Branch out maybe find new Authors to like and I feel like I picked some stuff that is a little bit outside of my comfort zone now that being said I don't know much about these romances and I kind of want to keep an open mind going into them like not really know what they're about so I'm not gonna like give you a whole Spiel on each book but the books that I have selected for us to read I have my phone right here I'm reading off of our corrupted chaos this one I kind of I kind of looked into this one before I picked it I think it's like a mafia romance and I think it's like enemies to lovers a lot of the Goodreads reviews say it's a little unhinged and that's very much what I'm in the mood for then I'm going to read ignite which is by an author that I've read before for some reason I'm blinking on the name but you can see the cover this is supposed to be a pretty hot romance and I think it might be like a firefighter romance I mean it's called ignite so like that would make sense and then I am going to be reading the wrong bride I feel like I've seen this author's cover specifically in KU so much lately I don't think I've heard anyone talking about her stuff so I feel like I need to give this a go for all of us right like I'll let you know my thoughts and feelings on it I'm really excited again to read all three of these books I'm also just going to take you along with me this weekend it's going to be kind of an exciting weekend I think I mean I'm not doing a ton but I'm gonna take you along with me as I hang out with Hayden maybe hang out with my sister and show you a little bit more of my life I do like including like life bits in these Vlogs and I feel like I kind of slacked on doing that in the latter half of last year so expect a little bit more like lifestyle stuff in this Vlog and I'm thinking I might share some like favorites with you along the way gotten some new things recently that I might want to share I also think that I might try and do a re-watch of friends not entirely like in this Vlog but I've just been craving some like really comforting things like want some comforting romances I want some comforting like re-watches I was really bummed when of yesterday pretty much finishing love theoretically uh so I didn't get to start in on corrupted chaos but I'm now 20 in and I can tell you my thoughts and feelings on it you just saw I uh had kind of a late lunch uh the Hayden made for us hung out with my cats and I'm just having a really chill Saturday um last night I also like watched some friends and I think I might watch a movie tonight although actually you know what I'm not gonna watch a movie tonight because tomorrow midday we're gonna go see Avatar me Hayden and my sister so I think I'm probably good on movies um leading up until that point because I think that one is like a three-hour movie so anyway um let's talk about corrupted chaos I don't know how I'm feeling about this book it's about our two main characters Cade and Izzy beginning of the story we find out through some really complicated Exposition that paid is like a distant cousin of Izzy's twin sister's husband um and we find out that Izzy had a really big crush on her twin sister's husband uh before they ended up getting married I don't know if like their story is in another book it kind of sounds like it is but the story is about Kade and Izzy Kade and Izzy have kind of an antagonistic relationship because they both work for the US government as hackers and he I guess is a better hacker than she is he's definitely a hot shot he doesn't want her on government work for some reason so he ends up getting her and her team assigned to work at like a corporate office instead and I don't know if it's like they're working at a corporate office undercover for like the FBI or something or if they're just like working at a corporate office because he didn't want them working for the FBI it was all kind of convoluted and weird and also again that Exposition at the beginning trying to figure out like who was related to who and also like who had feelings for who was interesting now we're in the present day and the opening of the first chapter of the book reminds me a lot actually of the opening two tis the season for Revenge which I read last month and this one Izzy is getting dumped on Halloween by her boyfriend who says that she's not good enough for him and that she needs to lose some weight and that she shouldn't be wearing this costume because her ass is hanging out she's dressed up as like Harley Quinn or something and after she gets out of the car and sprays him in the face with spray paint she ends up running into Cade who is I guess technically her boss at this like corporate company I'm not sure if he's like the owner the connections here are just really like confusing I really don't know what's going on but trying to kind of puzzle my way through it Kade and uh Izzy have some like antagonistic interactions but then they end up making out on the elevator to this Halloween party it was definitely steamy it was definitely hot relationship is definitely a very antagonistic enemies tell everyone it's not just like I hate your guts and like we don't talk much it's you know constantly like kind of ribbing each other and not in like a teasing way I don't know how to describe it except for you're the last person I would ever want to be in an elevator with that kind of thing like but like really over the top he's definitely into choking her so that's certainly a plot Point thing that happens I don't know since things are already really physical going into this book like the 12 work that they kind of had like a you know encounter if you will um I don't really know where things are going to go and I also don't know if I like am going to be excited about it because I'm already kind of I'm gonna be honest I'm kind of exhausted at this like 20 Mark wondering like what's gonna happen next and I think maybe like having them have some like true encounters at the beginning of the story was not best move I think like maybe some like touches but like not gonna all the way I think that would have been a better move at the beginning of the book to get us excited about like future encounters I'm wondering too if this is going to be a book that is kind of like plot heavy I wonder if like the hacking is going to come into play here um it's definitely not a mafia story I don't think I said that but it's not a mafia story necessarily though our heroine is trying to take down um afia and also I think that he has ties to the mafia even though he's just a hacker he's not like totally in love with it um I don't know I think I'm gonna carry on and try to finish it out just because that's that's what I should do but I I don't think this is going to be like you know a four or five star read okay so I have updates and I also have a Sephora haul for you I decided to get out of the house since Hayden's out of the house I went to Sephora and I'm going to treat myself to a little McDonald's after this so for a haul first and then we'll talk about books I went a little bit crazy in Sephora I was really on the hunt for a cream bronzer so I ended up getting the Nars cream bronzer I've heard really good things about it I pretty religiously watch Jessica Braun I just love her Channel I love her personality and I feel like her makeup foundations typically are pretty good her and Taylor winner like my go-to's for beauty stuff this is the palest shade so hopefully it works for me I got some more of my favorite hairspray not technically hairspray it's a finishing spray so it's got like some texture and grit to it I like using this in lieu of hairspray in my hair and I have been without it for a couple of weeks now I was hoping to get some for Christmas I think my mom did get me some but I have not seen my parents for Christmas because my parents had covered so you know fun fun I just literally can't live without this so um I have it in the Blanc scent I've had it in the Blanc and the blush scent and they're both pretty good they're heavily perfumed I basically curl my hair put some of this in it and my curls last for like three plus days and they're not too slippery so if you have like a medium hair that's kind of like slippery recommend highly recommend I also kind of wanted to try again some like other stuff that I'd heard people talk about another thing that I'd heard Jessica Brown talk about was the Lawless forget the filler lip Plumping line smoothing gloss I got it in Daisy pink I feel like the colors on like the testers I couldn't really get a good feel and what the colors were okay this is really pink I think it's supposed to be a pretty sheer gloss though so I think it'll be okay that it's a little bit milky okay I'm sort of regretting my choice here this is definitely not my typical color I got the new milk concealer in shade 1w healer wouldn't talk about this so again you know I gotta get it and I went a little crazy with fragrance I probably shouldn't have but you know treat yourself moment two Nest fragrances I'd been eyeing Indigo for a while and I don't know how to describe this but I like really I don't want to say unique fragrances but I guess perfume that you don't like smell on everyone this is really good I feel like I don't know how to describe it because it smells so different than anything that I've ever worn before it's a little bit floral but it's mostly like say like a dark fruit if that makes sense so I really like this and I got the like set I guess for Golden nectar I think it was like the same price as just the perfume on its own and it was like what was out my Sephora was really overpicked and this one smells like gotta describe it Victoria's Secret in like 2008 in the best way it's fruity it's a little bit like floral at the same time it kind of smells like a hair product that I used to use back in the day I can't remember which one I'm not describing it well or making it sound bad appealing but it's good and I like it this one's definitely I would say more like fun summer time and this one's more like any time of year if you want to smell like mysterious but you're not someone who really likes to smell like musky Amber I think you would like that I'm pretty happy with my haul I feel like things went well and now I have a lot of things to experiment with tomorrow when I do my makeup and my hair looks is what we're here to talk about correct so I ended up dnfing corrupt chaos I just couldn't do it I tried to keep reading and I just like I was realizing that the characters felt so flat and I'm also reading Mile High by Liz Tom Ford for another video and while I have issues with the writing of that book I can at least appreciate that I understand the characters I understand their motivations what they want um kind of who they are and while I understand that the main character for that book or for corrupt chaos Izzy stubborn and like strong-willed and like really wanted to I guess fight her sister's kidnapper her sister was kidnapped in another book maybe or like just kidnapped not in this book uh she wanted to like go after her sister's kidnapper and like that's great and fine but I just didn't really understand her very much and I feel like Cade was a very flat character like okay he's this grumpy boss guy but like what the does he want what are his motivations happy to like not finish it kind of long too and a lot of the reviews on Goodreads are like kind of meh so I'm I'm fine with that I'm so sorry like start off Vlog in that sort of way but I have started ignite by Melanie Harlow and I am liking it quite a bit more this is a single dad Romance I think the mom in this one is still in the picture which was not the case and another Melanie Harlow single dad romance I read just my luck the second Melanie Harlow book I pick up is about the kids or like one of the kids of the single dad of the other Melanie Harlow book that I've read basically the single dad and I think it's irresistible um had two kids one of them was named 20 and in this book Winnie is all grown up and is like finding herself a single dad I guess to like hook up with when he moves in next door with his two kids and I guess there's gonna be some sort of romance between the two of them when he is working at Cloverleaf Farms which is like the name of the series and I don't really know exactly what her position is but she seems like really fun Dex I believe is the name of the hero he's a firefighter he was an AV seal now he's a firefighter and he's divorced and I guess his wife or ex-wife is remarrying he seems very grumpy which I'm kind of into I don't know it's definitely formulaic and again like I think I did myself a disservice by picking up this book when I've already read irresistible and I think those are like the two most comparable of her books I'm having a good time with it I think it's fun now that Melanie Harlow does a very good job with like the sexiness of her books so I'm very excited to like see how the chemistry kind of unfolds between the two of them and like what really brings them them together I'm assuming it's the fact that like she's moving next door to him like they're moving she lives in a townhouse and he's gonna like be in the adjoining townhouse I think so should provide for some interesting fun banter moments I'm not that far into it I'm gonna try to get farther into it tonight and probably finish it tonight her books tend to read pretty quickly and I think that's another sign that corrupt chaos just wasn't for me because it was reading so slowly and I'm not here for that like I want to fly through a romance in like a good way you know enjoy it but not feel like it's a tour together so I'm gonna go and pop over to McDonald's and get myself some mcnuggies and some french fries that's what I want I'll be back okay so I have been uh trading off between watching TV slash YouTube and reading this book I am 50 into ignite and I'm really liking it it's so good it's not that similar actually now that I'm getting into it too irresistible I mean I guess it is in a sense but I like that the characters are kind of aware of it if that makes sense Winnie in the story is working at Cloverleaf Farms she sort of does whatever is needed at the hotel and she is sort of a I don't want to say serial monogamist but she falls into these bad relationships because she is like constantly seeking love and just like constantly daydreaming about what it would be like to you know have the relationship of her dream so she kind of ends up falling for like guys that are not good for her and she actually just broke off an engagement or she just got dumped by a guy she was engaged to because he wanted to move to New York and like bang models or something so um yeah she's not great at picking guys and whenever Dex moves in next door with his two daughters she's instantly attracted to him but she has like placed a bet with her friend that she can go for six months without dating anyone she really wants to like hold up her side of the bargain so she's like having to fight her feelings for decks or her attraction to decks and Dax is kind of having to do the same thing he thinks that she is too young for him I think he's 34 and she's 22. he's not really looking for a relationship but um enter into a sexual relationship at the kind of like 45 50 work of the book I mean Melanie Harlow is just a really fantastic writer I think that is really evident in reading this book in comparison to corrupted chaos here's the thing I I don't think that that book was bad I don't think the writing was terrible I think this is just more my speed shall we say the writing is definitely more for me it feels very seamless it feels really easy to get through and I've been having a really hard time lately like sticking with books um I feel like I'm a little bit slumpy at the moment but I've not looked at my phone once since picking this book up tonight so I'm really liking the relationship I think the sex scenes are hot and are definitely impressing me I'm always kind of wary of you know Friends with Benefits it's not necessarily something I like but I am liking their Dynamic it's really like fun and playful and I am excited to see kind of how their feelings for each other develop I guess you could say or I guess some people might have the criticism this is a little bit like insta-lovey or insta Lusty and I I don't disagree but I think because of the way that Melanie Harlow reads dialogue and because of interactions that our heroine has had with dex's kids I feel like I am already supportive of the idea of them being in a relationship um and it's funny she when he just told her best friend and her sister she hooked up with Dex and her sister was like oh my god did you realize that like you're basically doing exactly what our mom did with our dad when he's like now no no why would you bring that up like why would you bring up that like I'm also uh getting with a single dad so that was a funny moment but I think again it's very different in the in irresistible is definitely more of like a relationship that they're trying to hide sort of situation and in this it's more like you know forensic benefits trying not to gain feelings for each other but the feelings are obviously there so it's fun I like it it's nothing like really groundbreaking but I think if you'd like a good small town romance that isn't too quaint people into these books and I think that's what I like I think there's a distinction like don't get me wrong I do like a quaint like kind of sleepy small town romance but a lot of the time I just want like characters that feel familiar and like a small town setting in terms of like oh they all work at like you know this in or whatever but I don't necessarily want it to be like devoid of steam and uh Melanie Harlow said hey I got you back got you back for steamy with Stevie's Milton romance so I'm going to finish this one off tonight most likely I also need to finish off file High by Liz Tom Ford for a patreon exclusive reading Vlog I will update you tomorrow a morning on my thoughts and feelings I've had no thoughts and feelings on this one and then we can get started on our final book that Katarina Mara book I think it's Katarina katharina I don't know looking delicious Center is back there and he's gonna help me or I guess be the moral support that I need while I do my makeup because I need to leave in like an hour or two to go see Avatar we're getting Shake Shack actually before we go see Avatar gotta get cute for this experience also I just really want to try my new makeup that I got yesterday but I finished ignite just a second ago pardon my congestion but I also cried a little bit at the End of This Book it was just so wholesome and so needed I don't know for some reason like I've been waffling between whether or not I want to be reading like really like emotionally hard-hitting stuff or whether I want to be reading something just like light-hearted and fun I don't know I'm still in my Depression era I feel like I'm slowly coming out of it so I don't know I don't know I feel like I need things that are deeply emotional but also sweet and guess what this is both so I really liked the way the romance unfolded between the two characters it was one of those things that was so seamless like I didn't really notice a distinct shift I guess between Winnie and dex's relationship wasn't like they weren't sleeping together and then all of a sudden they said I love you like it was just really subtle the way that they would like you know sleep together but also these really sweet conversations and she was spending time with his kids and stuff with him so you could definitely see how the relationship like could develop and Bloom she got to see how good of a parent he was and he also was like pretty good about letting her in he definitely made mistakes and you know what if anything this is kind of reminding me a little bit of the relationship dynamic between the two characters and things we never got over except for Dex is a little bit more like emotionally mature he definitely like has that grumpy thing going on he definitely messes up and treats people shitty even though you know it's not their fault because he's dealing with his emotions but at least he does like that when he in a little bit and he does you know come to his senses and apologize for his behavior and also like he's a good dad so he has redeeming qualities so I don't know like I just really enjoyed this book it did feel different than the book that I was like comparing it to the book that I made was about Winnie's parents so I don't know I just thought it was really really sweet and I think if you are looking for a good small town romance single dad romance and you want something that is going to be just a little bit emotional but also probably not like you know make you cry I pick it up I mean I cried because I'm a baby but you know you probably won't cry I'm trying my new concealer right now let's see how this goes I know this is not necessarily relevant to the video wow okay um maybe I didn't pick the right shade but the other shade was so dark I hate when that happens I feel like I can never find the right concealer shade for me because I'm so freaking pale and it's like the pale Shades like white the next pillow Shades orange so what is what's a girl to do right I guess we're just gonna go with a very highlighted look today I feel like it looks pretty good actually and maybe it'll be like a little bit less intense when I you know put powder under my eye as well I normally use the tarte shape tape here I'll give you a little shade comparison I know you're so curious I guess you can't really tell but this one's like a little bit darker than this yeah like that looks white in comparison to this this is just a little darker this is the palest shade of shave tape it's 8B porcelain beige because of HP pale uh I'm gonna go ahead and finish my makeup I was going to try to do more of it on camera and talk to you more about like books and stuff but haven't started in on the wrong bride yet I'll probably like give you my thoughts and feelings on that one right before we leave for Avatar because I'm planning on doing my makeup and then hopping in bed and reading some more because you know it's a lazy Sunday and I'm feeling lazy also um this is exciting but my sister is getting a cat tomorrow another cat she has one cat and um since she's starting her job next year she wants to have like a friend for her cat that's what I did when I got Pepe for a nugget and it was like such a perfect situation so I'm really excited for my sister and also I get to go hang out with the kitten tomorrow so like my weekend's not totally over get to have a lazy Sunday and then also have like a lazy Monday which is exciting I don't know I just felt like sharing because I'm excited okay I'm not gonna ramble anymore I am gonna go ahead and finish off my makeup and I'll talk to you in a little bit about the wrong bread you want to be in it you're a superstar not particularly but so we're about to go see Avatar we're getting Shake Shack first though which is I think crucially important to this a discussion because that's kind of what I'm looking forward to my sister and Hayden like wanted to see Avatar I'm not like not wanting to yeah no I'm I'm like I'm kind of indifferent as well look forward to my cheese fries milkshake for 20 into the wrong bride and um it's kind of giving corrupted chaos Vibes in terms of like characterization here the characters are flat as it's not the author's fault but it is she could have done more this book's about our main characters Aries that's the hero's name Raven I think it's what up sometimes is when authors like they have um siblings in a book and the sibling names don't go together her name is Raven and her sister's name is Hannah Aries is engaged to Hannah Raven's older sister and it's like the Hot Shot model or no she's the actress of the family and apparently the parents are also actors and actresses and so they like love Hannah and think she's amazing and also like Hannah was sick as a kid and so they treat her better than they treat Raven Raven's apparently the highest paid model in the world and she is a fashion designer so she's also really cool but no one respects her she's had a crush on Aries for a really long time but there's like an arranged marriage between Anna and Aries and so he like I don't know he's gonna marry this girl I guess he loves her we have not nothing has led us to believe that he does not care for Hannah he says it in his own POV it's like oh I like Hannah she's cool you know I love her like I'm excited to get married to her even though she like doesn't seem to want to get married to me now that's kind of the issue here like she doesn't really seem to be that invested in um in Aries why can't Raven and Aries just be together oh she's already come on to him in in this first part of the book got really really drunk because she's trying to drown her feelings with her friend Sierra who just happens to be Aries sister she like takes her clothes off and tries to like grind on him and stuff at his house because he like takes the girls back to his house I just I don't know um I'm not really understanding it here's the thing if it was like an arranged marriage and like neither of them wanted to get married like neither Hannah or Aries wanted to get married to each other I could understand like why Raven would want to swoop in and also like why Aries would be into it but it doesn't seem like he has any interest in her I'm not sort of pathetic like it's not really giving like romance to me it's just kind of sad now he knows what I'm reading so that's it I'm 20 in I'm gonna get 50 in I'll be I'll be back after this movie and guess what I'm gonna tell you all about Avatar I know you really want to know I right so we just got home my hair is looking surprisingly good for not having been washed in four days Avatar was stupid I feel like visually it was fun but I feel like we've come a long way since 13 years ago I feel like CGI doesn't impress me as much as it used to granted the CGI was great whatever but uh storyline was weak to say the least I don't know what I was expecting but I feel like I'd heard good things about this and I was just like not impressed it was kind of a waste of three hours Shake Shack was good it was nice spending time with Spencer and Hayden like I said I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go hang out with Spencer again tomorrow we're gonna go pick up her new cat so I believe she's naming Toby I did get 50 into the wrong bride when I was on the way to the movies this is maybe the dumbest book that I've read so far this year granted I've not read very many books this year I've read like 12. I'm just at a loss so we've got Hannah we've got Aries we've got Raven Kiana decides she doesn't want to marry Aries last second the week before their wedding she's like you know what I don't want to do this I'm a famous actress like I want to make sure that I can act in movies in my Prime because like part I guess of the marriage agreement is that they cannot spend more than three days apart and she knows that's gonna be a part possible with her job so she's like I don't want to do this even though she still I guess likes Aries or whatever but she acts very nonchalant about it and Raven goes to her and is like hey if you don't marry this man I am going to have to technically Raven was the one that was promised to Aries in the first place but he like fell for Hannah first to fulfill this like marriage contract that is I guess like important to their two families Raven and Aries are now going to get married and she's having to wear her sister's wedding dress and she's having to like have the wedding that her sister wanted and she's not really happy about this and she's mad at Hannah for like letting this happen and Aries doesn't seem too happy about it either and then literally right after the wedding Hannah calls them up and is like I can't believe you would marry her like I can't believe you do that you should have waited for me like waited for a couple years even though they like needed to imminently get married this like contract this contract between the two families to work she's she decides to act mad and she's like I can't believe you would marry my sister of all people even though her sister told her that she was going to get married this guy it's just really stupid and I understand that that needs to happen for the conflict of the story to still be there but it's irritating because now he is like still very much into Hannah or at least like trying to stay true to Hannah but also trying to like fulfill his marriage to Raven and like not not have any sort of like infidelity and like treat her how she wants to be treated and like I don't know get freaky with her Raven's also kind of a doormat and also really irritating so I'm just like what is this book I am not like I don't hate it it's not the worst thing I've ever read or anything but it's easily the silliest dumbest book that I've read in a while and I am sad about it because I feel like this is the kind of plotline that could be really really good could be this really emotional angsty thing that's really what I was hoping for when I read the synopsis I really love a like brother's best friend or boyfriend's best friend or sister's boyfriend kind of thing like give me something juicy and and angsty intention felt like I'm always here for that but uh the execution here is just severely lacking so I don't know I think I'm gonna speed through the last 50 of this book and we can be done with this Vlog I know it's been kind of a mess but I don't think I told you that my final thoughts and feelings in terms of like star rating for ignite is a five star so like at least we had one five star read even if we have like a dnf and one like horrible book or like horribly rated book I'm fine with it as long as I get a five star reading and I had fun with you this weekend so it's fine but I'm gonna go ahead and finish this off and I will be back all right friends uh here to end off the Vlog I finished the wrong bride by Catherine Katarina Lara Catherine um it was horrible this is one of the worst books that I've brought in a long time I I don't even know what to say like okay I don't want to spoil things for you what irritated me the most about the story was the fact that our heroine not that she was like lusting after her sister's fiance the fact that her sister's fiance or the fact that her sister said I don't want to marry this man she doesn't marry the man Hannah is told by Raven I'm going to marry him if you don't and he was like whatever don't care it happens and then literally a day after Hannah is like why did you marry my fiance like why would you do this and Raven's like because I told you I was going to because it's like I'm supposed to to fulfill some sort of like family obligation and then Hannah is the only conflict in this book she comes up every chapter basically what happens is she does something Aries reacts like poorly as in he like says oh I love my wife but then he like I don't know leads Raven to believe that he like did something with Hannah or that like he has feelings for Hannah and he has to reassure Raven in by like sleeping with her and we get a sex scene and then it just repeats over and over and over again it's not fun it's not angsty it's not interesting there's some really stupid stuff that happens at the end of the book that feels like worse than a soap opera don't get me wrong uh soap operas are fine I'm actually named after a soap opera character so you know love my origin story but I don't love this book that's disappointing it's just a little bit of a bummer that two of the three books in this video like weren't great but you know what I feel like that is the risk of trying new Authors I don't regret it you know what I mean like I think you have to Branch out from time to time try to find new Authors to love I did strike out but I had such a good time reading ignite and I'm reading the year which is super exciting for this one I decided I was going to Branch out a little bit and I'm gonna be reading three best-selling Kindle unlimited romances perused the kind of best sellers list and found some romances that I'd never really heard of but I feel like I've seen uh pictures of the covers I don't know I just feel like I want to Branch out maybe find new Authors to like and I feel like I picked some stuff that is a little bit outside of my comfort zone now that being said I don't know much about these romances and I kind of want to keep an open mind going into them like not really know what they're about so I'm not gonna like give you a whole Spiel on each book but the books that I have selected for us to read I have my phone right here I'm reading off of our corrupted chaos this one I kind of I kind of looked into this one before I picked it I think it's like a mafia romance and I think it's like enemies to lovers a lot of the Goodreads reviews say it's a little unhinged and that's very much what I'm in the mood for then I'm going to read ignite which is by an author that I've read before for some reason I'm blinking on the name but you can see the cover this is supposed to be a pretty hot romance and I think it might be like a firefighter romance I mean it's called ignite so like that would make sense and then I am going to be reading the wrong bride I feel like I've seen this author's cover specifically in KU so much lately I don't think I've heard anyone talking about her stuff so I feel like I need to give this a go for all of us right like I'll let you know my thoughts and feelings on it I'm really excited again to read all three of these books I'm also just going to take you along with me this weekend it's going to be kind of an exciting weekend I think I mean I'm not doing a ton but I'm gonna take you along with me as I hang out with Hayden maybe hang out with my sister and show you a little bit more of my life I do like including like life bits in these Vlogs and I feel like I kind of slacked on doing that in the latter half of last year so expect a little bit more like lifestyle stuff in this Vlog and I'm thinking I might share some like favorites with you along the way gotten some new things recently that I might want to share I also think that I might try and do a re-watch of friends not entirely like in this Vlog but I've just been craving some like really comforting things like want some comforting romances I want some comforting like re-watches I was really bummed when I remembered that you can't get theoretically uh so I didn't get to start in on corrupted chaos but I'm now 20 in and I can tell you my thoughts and feelings on it you just saw I uh had kind of a late lunch uh the Hayden made for us hung out with my cats and I'm just having a really chill Saturday um last night I also like watched some friends and I think I might watch a movie tonight although actually you know what I'm not gonna watch a movie tonight because tomorrow midday we're gonna go see Avatar me Hayden and my sister so I think I'm probably good on movies um leading up until that point because I think that one is like a three-hour movie so anyway um let's talk about corrupted chaos I don't know how I'm feeling about this book it's about our two main characters Cade and Izzy beginning of the story we find out through some really complicated Exposition that paid is like a distant cousin of Izzy's twin sister's husband um and we find out that Izzy had a really big crush on her twin sister's husband uh before they ended up getting married I don't know if like their story is in another book it kind of sounds like it is but the story is about Kade and Izzy Kade and Izzy have kind of an antagonistic relationship because they both work for the US government as hackers and he I guess is a better hacker than she is he's definitely a hot shot he doesn't want her on government work for some reason so he ends up getting her and her team assigned to work at like a corporate office instead and I don't know if it's like they're working at a corporate office undercover for like the FBI or something or if they're just like working at a corporate office because he didn't want them working for the FBI it was all kind of convoluted and weird and also again that Exposition at the beginning trying to figure out like who was related to who and also like who had feelings for who was interesting now we're in the present day and the opening of the first chapter of the book reminds me a lot actually of the opening two tis the season for Revenge which I read last month and this one Izzy is getting dumped on Halloween by her boyfriend who says that she's not good enough for him and that she needs to lose some weight and that she shouldn't be wearing this costume because her ass is hanging out she's dressed up as like Harley Quinn or something and after she gets out of the car and sprays him in the face with spray paint she ends up running into Cade who is I guess technically her boss at this like corporate company I'm not sure if he's like the owner the connections here are just really like confusing I really don't know what's going on but trying to kind of puzzle my way through it Kade and uh Izzy have some like antagonistic interactions but then they end up making out on the elevator to this Halloween party it was definitely steamy it was definitely hot relationship is definitely a very antagonistic enemies tell everyone it's not just like I hate your guts and like we don't talk much it's you know constantly like kind of ribbing each other and not in like a teasing way I don't know how to describe it except for you're the last person I would ever want to be in an elevator with that kind of thing like but like really over the top he's definitely into choking her so that's certainly a plot Point thing that happens I don't know since things are already really physical going into this book like the 12 work that they kind of had like a you know encounter if you will um I don't really know where things are going to go and I also don't know if I like am going to be excited about it because I'm already kind of I'm gonna be honest I'm kind of exhausted at this like 20 Mark wondering like what's gonna happen next and I think maybe like having them have some like true encounters at the beginning of the story was not best move I think like maybe some like touches but like not gonna all the way I think that would have been a better move at the beginning of the book to get us excited about like future encounters I'm wondering too if this is going to be a book that is kind of like plot heavy I wonder if like the hacking is going to come into play here um it's definitely not a mafia story I don't think I said that but it's not a mafia story necessarily though our heroine is trying to take down um afia and also I think that he has ties to the mafia even though he's just a hacker he's not like totally in love with it um I don't know I think I'm gonna carry on and try to finish it out just because that's that's what I should do but I I don't think this is going to be like you know a four or five star read okay so I have updates and I also have a Sephora haul for you I decided to get out of the house since Hayden's out of the house I went to Sephora and I'm going to treat myself to a little McDonald's after this so for a haul first and then we'll talk about books I went a little bit crazy in Sephora I was really on the hunt for a cream bronzer so I ended up getting the Nars cream bronzer I've heard really good things about it I pretty religiously watch Jessica Braun I just love her Channel I love her personality and I feel like her makeup foundations typically are pretty good her and Taylor winner like my go-to's for beauty stuff this is the palest shade so hopefully it works for me I got some more of my favorite hairspray not technically hairspray it's a finishing spray so it's got like some texture and grit to it I like using this in lieu of hairspray in my hair and I have been without it for a couple of weeks now I was hoping to get some for Christmas I think my mom did get me some but I have not seen my parents for Christmas because my parents had covered so you know fun fun I just literally can't live without this so um I have it in the Blanc scent I've had it in the Blanc and the blush scent and they're both pretty good they're heavily perfumed I basically curl my hair put some of this in it and my curls last for like three plus days and they're not too slippery so if you have like a medium hair that's kind of like slippery recommend highly recommend I also kind of wanted to try again some like other stuff that I'd heard people talk about another thing that I'd heard Jessica Brown talk about was the Lawless forget the filler lip Plumping line smoothing gloss I got it in Daisy pink I feel like the colors on like the testers I couldn't really get a good feel and what the colors were okay this is really pink I think it's supposed to be a pretty sheer gloss though so I think it'll be okay that it's a little bit milky okay I'm sort of regretting my choice here this is definitely not my typical color I got the new milk concealer in shade 1w healer wouldn't talk about this so again you know I gotta get it and I went a little crazy with fragrance I probably shouldn't have but you know treat yourself moment two Nest fragrances I'd been eyeing Indigo for a while and I don't know how to describe this but I like really I don't want to say unique fragrances but I guess perfume that you don't like smell on everyone this is really good I feel like I don't know how to describe it because it smells so different than anything that I've ever worn before it's a little bit floral but it's mostly like say like a dark fruit if that makes sense so I really like this and I got the like set I guess for Golden nectar I think it was like the same price as just the perfume on its own and it was like what was out my Sephora was really overpicked and this one smells like gotta describe it Victoria's Secret in like 2008 in the best way it's fruity it's a little bit like floral at the same time it kind of smells like a hair product that I used to use back in the day I can't remember which one I'm not describing it well or making it sound bad appealing but it's good and I like it this one's definitely I would say more like fun summer time and this one's more like any time of year if you want to smell like mysterious but you're not someone who really likes to smell like musky Amber I think you would like that I'm pretty happy with my haul I feel like things went well and now I have a lot of things to experiment with tomorrow when I do my makeup and my hair looks is what we're here to talk about correct so I ended up dnfing corrupt chaos I just couldn't do it I tried to keep reading and I just like I was realizing that the characters felt so flat and I'm also reading Mile High by Liz Tom Ford for another video and while I have issues with the writing of that book I can at least appreciate that I understand the characters I understand their motivations what they want um kind of who they are and while I understand that the main character for that book or for corrupt chaos Izzy stubborn and like strong-willed and like really wanted to I guess fight her sister's kidnapper her sister was kidnapped in another book maybe or like just kidnapped not in this book uh she wanted to like go after her sister's kidnapper and like that's great and fine but I just didn't really understand her very much and I feel like Cade was a very flat character like okay he's this grumpy boss guy but like what the does he want what are his motivations happy to like not finish it kind of long too and a lot of the reviews on Goodreads are like kind of meh so I'm I'm fine with that I'm so sorry like start off Vlog in that sort of way but I have started ignite by Melanie Harlow and I am liking it quite a bit more this is a single dad Romance I think the mom in this one is still in the picture which was not the case and another Melanie Harlow single dad romance I read just my luck the second Melanie Harlow book I pick up is about the kids or like one of the kids of the single dad of the other Melanie Harlow book that I've read basically the single dad and I think it's irresistible um had two kids one of them was named 20 and in this book Winnie is all grown up and is like finding herself a single dad I guess to like hook up with when he moves in next door with his two kids and I guess there's gonna be some sort of romance between the two of them when he is working at Cloverleaf Farms which is like the name of the series and I don't really know exactly what her position is but she seems like really fun Dex I believe is the name of the hero he's a firefighter he was an AV seal now he's a firefighter and he's divorced and I guess his wife or ex-wife is remarrying he seems very grumpy which I'm kind of into I don't know it's definitely formulaic and again like I think I did myself a disservice by picking up this book when I've already read irresistible and I think those are like the two most comparable of her books I'm having a good time with it I think it's fun now that Melanie Harlow does a very good job with like the sexiness of her books so I'm very excited to like see how the chemistry kind of unfolds between the two of them and like what really brings them them together I'm assuming it's the fact that like she's moving next door to him like they're moving she lives in a townhouse and he's gonna like be in the adjoining townhouse I think so should provide for some interesting fun banter moments I'm not that far into it I'm gonna try to get farther into it tonight and probably finish it tonight her books tend to read pretty quickly and I think that's another sign that corrupt chaos just wasn't for me because it was reading so slowly and I'm not here for that like I want to fly through a romance in like a good way you know enjoy it but not feel like it's a tour together so I'm gonna go and pop over to McDonald's and get myself some mcnuggies and some french fries that's what I want I'll be back okay so I have been uh trading off between watching TV slash YouTube and reading this book I am 50 into ignite and I'm really liking it it's so good it's not that similar actually now that I'm getting into it too irresistible I mean I guess it is in a sense but I like that the characters are kind of aware of it if that makes sense Winnie in the story is working at Cloverleaf Farms she sort of does whatever is needed at the hotel and she is sort of a I don't want to say serial monogamist but she falls into these bad relationships because she is like constantly seeking love and just like constantly daydreaming about what it would be like to you know have the relationship of her dream so she kind of ends up falling for like guys that are not good for her and she actually just broke off an engagement or she just got dumped by a guy she was engaged to because he wanted to move to New York and like bang models or something so um yeah she's not great at picking guys and whenever Dex moves in next door with his two daughters she's instantly attracted to him but she has like placed a bet with her friend that she can go for six months without dating anyone she really wants to like hold up her side of the bargain so she's like having to fight her feelings for decks or her attraction to decks and Dax is kind of having to do the same thing he thinks that she is too young for him I think he's 34 and she's 22. he's not really looking for a relationship but um enter into a sexual relationship at the kind of like 45 50 work of the book I mean Melanie Harlow is just a really fantastic writer I think that is really evident in reading this book in comparison to corrupted chaos here's the thing I I don't think that that book was bad I don't think the writing was terrible I think this is just more my speed shall we say the writing is definitely more for me it feels very seamless it feels really easy to get through and I've been having a really hard time lately like sticking with books um I feel like I'm a little bit slumpy at the moment but I've not looked at my phone once since picking this book up tonight so I'm really liking the relationship I think the sex scenes are hot and are definitely impressing me I'm always kind of wary of you know Friends with Benefits it's not necessarily something I like but I am liking their Dynamic it's really like fun and playful and I am excited to see kind of how their feelings for each other develop I guess you could say or I guess some people might have the criticism this is a little bit like insta-lovey or insta Lusty and I I don't disagree but I think because of the way that Melanie Harlow reads dialogue and because of interactions that our heroine has had with dex's kids I feel like I am already supportive of the idea of them being in a relationship um and it's funny she when he just told her best friend and her sister she hooked up with Dex and her sister was like oh my god did you realize that like you're basically doing exactly what our mom did with our dad when he's like now no no why would you bring that up like why would you bring up that like I'm also uh getting with a single dad so that was a funny moment but I think again it's very different in the in irresistible is definitely more of like a relationship that they're trying to hide sort of situation and in this it's more like you know forensic benefits trying not to gain feelings for each other but the feelings are obviously there so it's fun I like it it's nothing like really groundbreaking but I think if you'd like a good small town romance that isn't too quaint people into these books and I think that's what I like I think there's a distinction like don't get me wrong I do like a quaint like kind of sleepy small town romance but a lot of the time I just want like characters that feel familiar and like a small town setting in terms of like oh they all work at like you know this in or whatever but I don't necessarily want it to be like devoid of steam and uh Melanie Harlow said hey I got you back got you back for steamy with Stevie's Milton romance so I'm going to finish this one off tonight most likely I also need to finish off file High by Liz Tom Ford for a patreon exclusive reading Vlog I will update you tomorrow a morning on my thoughts and feelings I've had no thoughts and feelings on this one and then we can get started on our final book that Katarina Mara book I think it's Katarina katharina I don't know looking delicious Center is back there and he's gonna help me or I guess be the moral support that I need while I do my makeup because I need to leave in like an hour or two to go see Avatar we're getting Shake Shack actually before we go see Avatar gotta get cute for this experience also I just really want to try my new makeup that I got yesterday but I finished ignite just a second ago pardon my congestion but I also cried a little bit at the End of This Book it was just so wholesome and so needed I don't know for some reason like I've been waffling between whether or not I want to be reading like really like emotionally hard-hitting stuff or whether I want to be reading something just like light-hearted and fun I don't know I'm still in my Depression era I feel like I'm slowly coming out of it so I don't know I don't know I feel like I need things that are deeply emotional but also sweet and guess what this is both so I really liked the way the romance unfolded between the two characters it was one of those things that was so seamless like I didn't really notice a distinct shift I guess between Winnie and dex's relationship wasn't like they weren't sleeping together and then all of a sudden they said I love you like it was just really subtle the way that they would like you know sleep together but also these really sweet conversations and she was spending time with his kids and stuff with him so you could definitely see how the relationship like could develop and Bloom she got to see how good of a parent he was and he also was like pretty good about letting her in he definitely made mistakes and you know what if anything this is kind of reminding me a little bit of the relationship dynamic between the two characters and things we never got over except for Dex is a little bit more like emotionally mature he definitely like has that grumpy thing going on he definitely messes up and treats people shitty even though you know it's not their fault because he's dealing with his emotions but at least he does like that when he in a little bit and he does you know come to his senses and apologize for his behavior and also like he's a good dad so he has redeeming qualities so I don't know like I just really enjoyed this book it did feel different than the book that I was like comparing it to the book that I made was about Winnie's parents so I don't know I just thought it was really really sweet and I think if you are looking for a good small town romance single dad romance and you want something that is going to be just a little bit emotional but also probably not like you know make you cry I pick it up I mean I cried because I'm a baby but you know you probably won't cry I'm trying my new concealer right now let's see how this goes I know this is not necessarily relevant to the video wow okay um maybe I didn't pick the right shade but the other shade was so dark I hate when that happens I feel like I can never find the right concealer shade for me because I'm so freaking pale and it's like the pale Shades like white the next pillow Shades orange so what is what's a girl to do right I guess we're just gonna go with a very highlighted look today I feel like it looks pretty good actually and maybe it'll be like a little bit less intense when I you know put powder under my eye as well I normally use the tarte shape tape here I'll give you a little shade comparison I know you're so curious I guess you can't really tell but this one's like a little bit darker than this yeah like that looks white in comparison to this this is just a little darker this is the palest shade of shave tape it's 8B porcelain beige because of HP pale uh I'm gonna go ahead and finish my makeup I was going to try to do more of it on camera and talk to you more about like books and stuff but haven't started in on the wrong bride yet I'll probably like give you my thoughts and feelings on that one right before we leave for Avatar because I'm planning on doing my makeup and then hopping in bed and reading some more because you know it's a lazy Sunday and I'm feeling lazy also um this is exciting but my sister is getting a cat tomorrow another cat she has one cat and um since she's starting her job next year she wants to have like a friend for her cat that's what I did when I got Pepe for a nugget and it was like such a perfect situation so I'm really excited for my sister and also I get to go hang out with the kitten tomorrow so like my weekend's not totally over get to have a lazy Sunday and then also have like a lazy Monday which is exciting I don't know I just felt like sharing because I'm excited okay I'm not gonna ramble anymore I am gonna go ahead and finish off my makeup and I'll talk to you in a little bit about the wrong bread you want to be in it you're a superstar not particularly but so we're about to go see Avatar we're getting Shake Shack first though which is I think crucially important to this a discussion because that's kind of what I'm looking forward to my sister and Hayden like wanted to see Avatar I'm not like not wanting to yeah no I'm I'm like I'm kind of indifferent as well look forward to my cheese fries milkshake for 20 into the wrong bride and um it's kind of giving corrupted chaos Vibes in terms of like characterization here the characters are flat as it's not the author's fault but it is she could have done more this book's about our main characters Aries that's the hero's name Raven I think it's what up sometimes is when authors like they have um siblings in a book and the sibling names don't go together her name is Raven and her sister's name is Hannah Aries is engaged to Hannah Raven's older sister and it's like the Hot Shot model or no she's the actress of the family and apparently the parents are also actors and actresses and so they like love Hannah and think she's amazing and also like Hannah was sick as a kid and so they treat her better than they treat Raven Raven's apparently the highest paid model in the world and she is a fashion designer so she's also really cool but no one respects her she's had a crush on Aries for a really long time but there's like an arranged marriage between Anna and Aries and so he like I don't know he's gonna marry this girl I guess he loves her we have not nothing has led us to believe that he does not care for Hannah he says it in his own POV it's like oh I like Hannah she's cool you know I love her like I'm excited to get married to her even though she like doesn't seem to want to get married to me now that's kind of the issue here like she doesn't really seem to be that invested in um in Aries why can't Raven and Aries just be together oh she's already come on to him in in this first part of the book got really really drunk because she's trying to drown her feelings with her friend Sierra who just happens to be Aries sister she like takes her clothes off and tries to like grind on him and stuff at his house because he like takes the girls back to his house I just I don't know um I'm not really understanding it here's the thing if it was like an arranged marriage and like neither of them wanted to get married like neither Hannah or Aries wanted to get married to each other I could understand like why Raven would want to swoop in and also like why Aries would be into it but it doesn't seem like he has any interest in her I'm not sort of pathetic like it's not really giving like romance to me it's just kind of sad now he knows what I'm reading so that's it I'm 20 in I'm gonna get 50 in I'll be I'll be back after this movie and guess what I'm gonna tell you all about Avatar I know you really want to know I right so we just got home my hair is looking surprisingly good for not having been washed in four days Avatar was stupid I feel like visually it was fun but I feel like we've come a long way since 13 years ago I feel like CGI doesn't impress me as much as it used to granted the CGI was great whatever but uh storyline was weak to say the least I don't know what I was expecting but I feel like I'd heard good things about this and I was just like not impressed it was kind of a waste of three hours Shake Shack was good it was nice spending time with Spencer and Hayden like I said I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go hang out with Spencer again tomorrow we're gonna go pick up her new cat so I believe she's naming Toby I did get 50 into the wrong bride when I was on the way to the movies this is maybe the dumbest book that I've read so far this year granted I've not read very many books this year I've read like 12. I'm just at a loss so we've got Hannah we've got Aries we've got Raven Kiana decides she doesn't want to marry Aries last second the week before their wedding she's like you know what I don't want to do this I'm a famous actress like I want to make sure that I can act in movies in my Prime because like part I guess of the marriage agreement is that they cannot spend more than three days apart and she knows that's gonna be a part possible with her job so she's like I don't want to do this even though she still I guess likes Aries or whatever but she acts very nonchalant about it and Raven goes to her and is like hey if you don't marry this man I am going to have to technically Raven was the one that was promised to Aries in the first place but he like fell for Hannah first to fulfill this like marriage contract that is I guess like important to their two families Raven and Aries are now going to get married and she's having to wear her sister's wedding dress and she's having to like have the wedding that her sister wanted and she's not really happy about this and she's mad at Hannah for like letting this happen and Aries doesn't seem too happy about it either and then literally right after the wedding Hannah calls them up and is like I can't believe you would marry her like I can't believe you do that you should have waited for me like waited for a couple years even though they like needed to imminently get married this like contract this contract between the two families to work she's she decides to act mad and she's like I can't believe you would marry my sister of all people even though her sister told her that she was going to get married this guy it's just really stupid and I understand that that needs to happen for the conflict of the story to still be there but it's irritating because now he is like still very much into Hannah or at least like trying to stay true to Hannah but also trying to like fulfill his marriage to Raven and like not not have any sort of like infidelity and like treat her how she wants to be treated and like I don't know get freaky with her Raven's also kind of a doormat and also really irritating so I'm just like what is this book I am not like I don't hate it it's not the worst thing I've ever read or anything but it's easily the silliest dumbest book that I've read in a while and I am sad about it because I feel like this is the kind of plotline that could be really really good could be this really emotional angsty thing that's really what I was hoping for when I read the synopsis I really love a like brother's best friend or boyfriend's best friend or sister's boyfriend kind of thing like give me something juicy and and angsty intention felt like I'm always here for that but uh the execution here is just severely lacking so I don't know I think I'm gonna speed through the last 50 of this book and we can be done with this Vlog I know it's been kind of a mess but I don't think I told you that my final thoughts and feelings in terms of like star rating for ignite is a five star so like at least we had one five star read even if we have like a dnf and one like horrible book or like horribly rated book I'm fine with it as long as I get a five star reading and I had fun with you this weekend so it's fine but I'm gonna go ahead and finish this off and I will be back all right friends uh here to end off the Vlog I finished the wrong bride by Catherine Katarina Lara Catherine um it was horrible this is one of the worst books that I've brought in a long time I I don't even know what to say like okay I don't want to spoil things for you what irritated me the most about the story was the fact that our heroine not that she was like lusting after her sister's fiance the fact that her sister's fiance or the fact that her sister said I don't want to marry this man she doesn't marry the man Hannah is told by Raven I'm going to marry him if you don't and he was like whatever don't care it happens and then literally a day after Hannah is like why did you marry my fiance like why would you do this and Raven's like because I told you I was going to because it's like I'm supposed to to fulfill some sort of like family obligation and then Hannah is the only conflict in this book she comes up every chapter basically what happens is she does something Aries reacts like poorly as in he like says oh I love my wife but then he like I don't know leads Raven to believe that he like did something with Hannah or that like he has feelings for Hannah and he has to reassure Raven in by like sleeping with her and we get a sex scene and then it just repeats over and over and over again it's not fun it's not angsty it's not interesting there's some really stupid stuff that happens at the end of the book that feels like worse than a soap opera don't get me wrong uh soap operas are fine I'm actually named after a soap opera character so you know love my origin story but I don't love this book that's disappointing it's just a little bit of a bummer that two of the three books in this video like weren't great but you know what I feel like that is the risk of trying new Authors I don't regret it you know what I mean like I think you have to Branch out from time to time try to find new Authors to love I did strike out but I had such a good time reading ignite and I'm reading some other books for another KU Vlog for my patreon that went well so I'm not feeling too upset about it and in general I'm just glad I could take you along with me this weekend as I you know hung out
