**Reading Experience with "There's Someone Inside Your House" by Stephanie Perkins**
I'd like to recommend this book for Halloween, as it's a great read that's sure to deliver on its spooky promises. The cover art and the description of the story drew me in, and I was excited to dive into the world of this high school mystery. With 190 pages, I had a clear idea of what to expect from this book.
The last challenge for Spook Assam was to read a book with a spooky setting, which made "There's Someone Inside Your House" an ideal choice for me. Stephanie Perkins is known for her romantic comedies, such as "French Kiss", "Love Letters to the Dead", and "It's Not Summer Without You". I was curious to see how she would tackle the horror genre.
As I began reading this book, I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical. I'd heard mixed reviews from other readers, and I wasn't sure what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The story revolves around a killer who's on the loose, targeting students at random and in gruesome ways. If you're a fan of "I Know What You Did Last Summer" or similar movies, this book might be up your alley.
Stephanie Perkins did a great job of conveying the suspenseful atmosphere that permeates the entire book. While it wasn't the most terrifying read, I was kept on edge by the constant feeling of unease and fear for the characters' lives. The author's writing style is engaging, and I appreciated how she wove together the mystery and suspense.
One aspect of the book that I found a bit frustrating was the lack of character development. Our main character had a dark secret that was hinted at throughout the story, but it wasn't until the very end that we finally learned what it was. While this added to the overall sense of surprise and shock, it also made me feel like I'd been kept in the dark for too long.
Overall, I would give "There's Someone Inside Your House" an average rating of 3 out of 5 stars. It wasn't a terrible book by any means, but it didn't blow me away either. If you're a fan of Stephanie Perkins' romances or enjoy horror stories with a strong focus on suspense, this might be the book for you.
**Reading Stats and Challenges**
In terms of reading stats, I'm pleased to say that I met all my goals for this Spook Assam challenge. With 5 books read in one week, I managed to stay within my page count target and even surpassed it by a significant amount. The only two challenges that didn't quite go as planned were the "read a book with a graphic novel" and "read a book set in a spooky location". However, I was happy to substitute these books with other titles that fit the challenge better.
**Other Books Read During Spook Assam**
As mentioned earlier, my five reads for Spook Assam included:
* "You'll Be the Death of Me" by Katie McGarry
* "I'll Give You a Million Tomorrows" by Natasha Preston
* "One of Us is Lying" by Karen M. McManus
* "The Wicked Deep" by Shea Ernshaw
* "A Grave Book" by Emily R. King
Each of these books was a unique reading experience, and I enjoyed exploring different genres and themes during this challenge.
**Conclusion**
Overall, I'm thrilled with how my Spook Assam challenge turned out. It was a great opportunity to read new books, explore different genres, and stay on track with my reading goals. While some books didn't quite meet my expectations, I enjoyed the experience of trying new authors and titles, and I appreciate the community that came together to support each other during this challenge.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello everybody today I'm here to talk to you guys about my spook asan or wrap-up so you weren't aware I participated in the spook is on this year which it's a read-a-thon that happens every year in September I want to say this is either the second or the third one this is my first time participating in a video on my TBR letting you know which books I picked up for this book at the home which I leave right here and I just uploaded my spoke asan vlog where I literally vlog the entire week it was boring I'm not gonna lie to you guys and it's very long for some reason it's almost like 30 minutes so it's a lengthy one but it just really sums up my reading week as a whole and also dives to know if personal life like showing you what I do everyday and family stuff and if you want to check it out I'll be right here but yeah those are two videos related to this book I thought now I will be officially wrapping it up in my vlog I talked about what I read but today I'm gonna really flesh out how many pages I read um what challenges I accomplished and things like that so I'm gonna do this video is there were five challenges and it's focus on so I'm gonna go through each challenge letting you know which book I picked out and whether I accomplished in reading that book or not letting you know the page count of each book and overall my page total through the entire week the first challenge was to read a through the book I picked out my TBR was like she told by Kate Houlihan and I did accomplish in reading this plus 304 pages this is all about a woman that's actually a writer and she's actually reading a thriller novel herself so it's kind of cleansing into her novel and her actual life and how they're kind of merging together overall I was underwhelmed by the story a lot I thought the premise sound amazing I was so excited to read it but I found it to be very lackluster I thought they were really gonna delve into like can you really separate both of these characters life's like I thought it was gonna be like a really hard time distinguishing like is the writers life and her novel if that makes sense I thought it was gonna get really blurry but it didn't really get blurry overall I just found it to be okay not the best thriller I've ever read which great I haven't read a ton I'm still new to the genre but I just don't know I don't know if I'd recommend it I tell you for looking for something to fly through and just kind of interesting I would recommend it but was it really gripping was it thrilling like not so much I can kind of guess where it was going so I gave this one a three out of five it wasn't the best I'm glad I read it but I just it was kind of a middle-of-the-road book for me the other book that I read that wasn't thriller that I wasn't even planning to read for this read-a-thon was he will be my room by Kate Tucker I had actually started this before the spook Athan began and I read a hundred pages of it so technically read 240 pages of this one this is another thriller it's a new adult one I will say it's all about this woman that commits suicide and it's about her best friend who comes into town to like kind of take care of her estate and things like that and she learns that maybe she did not commit suicide after all that somebody actually murdered her and this almost another kind of middle of the road for me I will say it's new adult there are a lot of sexual scenes in this book like more than I was expecting and the like mystery aspect wasn't so gripping I felt like I guessed it that I didn't guess it then I guess it again I didn't find the main character to be super relatable or super like interesting overall it was a decent one I'd say out of the two I was much more interested in this storyline what was going on and learning more about the woman secrets and things like that but overall again like kind of a middle-of-the-road book for me so those of you through lose that I read so like I said the first one was 304 pages I read 240 pages that's this one next job was to read a book with a spooky word in the title and the book I had originally picked up for this challenge was the graveyard book by Neil Gaiman I got the illustrated version I've since returned it to the library I read 40 pages of it which I'm not counting by the way because that's just how I am I suppose and I wasn't really feeling it it didn't feel like my type of a graphic novel book I don't know if that's because the books actually supposed to be a book and they adapted it to an illustrated novel so I maybe I picked up the wrong one he I would prefer the actual book instead of the Illustrated version but I feel very bad saying this because a ton of people love love the Kreger book it I just was not feeling I feel like was gonna be much more deeper than I thought it was gonna be I was just looking for kind of a spooky book but I think Neil Gaiman goes a little bit deeper into things like that so I don't know let me know from not alone with that so I obviously did not read the book for that challenge but I mean I don't know read a book with a spooky word in the title this is gonna be stretching it I'm just gonna go with a lie she told lies that's a spooky word right because when I think of scary when I think of lies I think they're scary I mean they really are really down when you just get into it so this is really stretch but we're just gonna go for it so that's the yeah I don't read it for horrible the next challenge was to read a book based on a childhood fear again I picked the graveyard book for this one as well as doubling out but I didn't read that one luckily enough I had another one that kind of fit in with that oh my pick is through the woods by Emily Carroll woods definitely frightened me still frighten me this day like not like I can walk in the woods daytime I think it's nighttime like no no no no no no so I think I'm gonna use this one for that this is another graphic novels 208 pages this is five like just creepy kind of tales this is my favorite book I read out of the whole read-a-thon I really enjoyed this much more than I thought I was going to they are five spooky stories but they're not necessarily scary I would say they're just more kind of creepy and definitely give you that Halloween vibe my favorites if you're wondering if you've read this books alright hands down well the lady's hands are cold just because of the illustrations I love the illustrations the most and this one I just found them to be very very like creepy look that's a head right then uh and they were just really vibrant with like the red and the blood and the gore and things like that which is perfect for Halloween I also love the first one um a neighbor's house I did like that one that was kind of a very quiet type of creepy if that makes sense on his face all red I didn't really enjoyed that one as well my friend Jana I really enjoyed it I felt like they could have been a little bit more spooky with it I'm honest with you but I still enjoyed like the premise and the bulk of it it was very very interesting and I think what was the last one called oh the last one was great look at that I mean this book gets it for like the really creepy illustrations all kind of like I think have deeper meanings to them and they also have kind of interaction and conclusion which are also great so I Adam all of these I would recommend this one the most I think this is perfect to return near Halloween um check if your local library has that luckily mine did it just the quintessential Halloween spooky reading I really enjoyed it like I want to buy myself a copy of this book to read every single Halloween because I liked it that much I just loved the illustrations I love that they're all kind of short stories and it's just it's like one and done so I really enjoyed this one um I would give this one a four out of five honestly so it was awesome and like I said it was 208 pages challenge was to read a book with orange on the cover for this one I picked another graphic novel and that is Coraline awesome by Neil Gaiman I green the grave your book couldn't get into it I actually got through Coraline this is another one I think it's actually a book but was adapted to an illustrative version I think I'm not sure on it but there's the orange right there you can see it actually on the title this one was okay I wanted to love it more it's about this grunting Coraline who moves into a house with her family and she opens up this door and then like she walks through in it kind of leads into another like her family but different and just a very kind of creepy world but I wanted to be a little bit more creepy but it's middle grade I think so I can understand that but I don't know that like wasn't in the thought process they can deep enough to understand it but overall I just found it kind of mediocre it was fun I'm not gonna lie to you I had a good time reading it and the illustrations weren't my favorite in this I found them I wish they would have upped it a little bit of a creepy factor I think the whole button eyes is creepy and the eyes but I think they should have done like a little bit more bigger panels for scarier things but overall like I said it's an okay one I would say I'd recommend it for Halloween it's a great Halloween read that's for sure and so yeah I picked this one for the orders on the cover and it's again 190 baby and the last challenge is to read a book with a spooky setting and for this one I picked I pick through the woods for that one and I also picked there's someone inside your house by Stephanie Perkins that's definitely a spooky setting to me so this is the last book I read for this book a lot and I thought I was gonna hate this book just to forewarn I have been hearing so many mixed reviews about this book it's insane so I went to thinking I'm gonna hate every single bit of this book but I came out thinking it was okay it wasn't the best thing I've ever read but it wasn't the worst this is literally this is about a kind of killer that's on the loose and like this high school and random string random students are ending up dead and really gruesome ways I'd say if you take the movie I know what you did last summer and scream and put it in a book boom you will have there someone inside your house so Stephanie Perkins if you didn't know also wrote in in the French kiss little boy next door really cute and fluffy things this is her first full ray and to like what a horror and I think she did good with it I think you can definitely tell she's a contemporary writer was it scary at all not at I'm they're worse than really gruesome scenes and I was like oh but overall I felt the characters could have been fleshed out a little bit more there's also our main character she had this huge dark foreboding secret the whole book and you're like oh what happened what happened in your past and your the whole books in suspense like they found out what I did oh my goodness survive I mean you finally figure out it's kind of bad and we'll see those trigger warnings with severe bullying easing um with murders and stuff like that just so you're aware of it I just didn't like that they were hinting at this huge dark secret past this whole entire time it was a good time reading it though you will find out I was blowing or not I don't know who the killer is very early on which I felt like it kind of took away from my whole reading experience with this book I kind of wish she found out a little bit later in the book but overall it was average it wasn't as bad as I was expecting I'll just say that it's not give it a three out of five again just kind of a middle-of-the-road book for me it's a why a so I'd recommend it if you're a Stephanie Perkins fan if you're interested to see her right and absolutely different genre but if you're like looking for something really gripping and horror filled and things like that and maybe skip on it this was 287 pages by the way so there you have it I've read five books for the spook
